Absolutely gorgeous camping! And no bugs!
Sweeping vistas of the Hudson Valley from the former location of the Catskill Mountain House Hotel (1,600 feet above the valley). Park in the "Catskill Mountain House" lot inside North - South Lake Campground. It's less than a 10 minute easy walk to the summit. If you're daring, take the blue trail from the Mountain House (.46 miles) to Boulder Rock for better views (and to get away from the crowds during peak season). The first half of this trail is not for the faint of heart. It's moderate to strenuous over large boulders but well worth the trip. Please keep an eye on the kids as there are no guard rails anywhere and it's a long way down.
The restrooms also need to be cleaned more. I don't care if the building is old but it must be clean. A number of times the restroom toilets and sinks were clogged. Time for a system upgrade?? An outhouse would of been more sanitary.
Beautiful campground with super clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Campsites are nicely spaced and some back up to the water which is great. Overall would definitely recommend .
It's too bad the staff aren't more welcoming and you feel like your being stalked by the park ranger. Even if this park was known for trouble makers, the staff should lighten up a bit and put a smile on.
A beautiful Park up in the Catskills, with ample amounts of camping spaces, boat rentals, and various trails through the park. However, if you're camping you may want to book months in advance, especially during the peak season.
Love this place. Been going there since 1991. Great hiking, fishing, kayaking and row boating. Clean park. Friendly staff. Phenomenal views from the many hiking trails. No frills camping. Each site has a concrete fire pit. Great for small pop ups or tents. No hook ups or cell service which cuts down on the noise. Fields for sports and rec games. Two good sized lakes for boating (no motors) swimming and fishing. Public bath houses with private showers. Short drive to town if you forgot any supplies.
